While many Chicagoans are gaining a greater understanding of how to protect their physical health during the COVID-19 crisis, there is less understanding about how to ensure the financial health and safety of families, businesses, and individuals.

To ensure everyone has access to essential financial resources and information needed to weather the storm, the City of Chicago Treasurer’s office is hosting “Money Mondays with Melissa,” a series of webinars on May 4th, 11th and 18th. Financial services’ experts and local leaders will join Treasurer Conyears-Ervin each Monday to share advice and information that will help everyone get the relief and assistance they need to safeguard their financial health and future.

“This crisis has put an unimaginable strain on hard-working families, small businesses and nonprofits, so we’re providing a wealth of online financial information to ensure Chicagoans have access to the resources and assistance they need to protect their futures,” said Treasurer Conyears-Ervin.

The first “Money Mondays with Melissa” discussion with Treasurer Conyears-Ervin on Monday, May 4th at 12 noon features Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Working Credit’s co-founder Amanda Carney. They will share financial tips and give advice for how to reduce expenses and save money, paying the mortgage or the rent, and help with making difficult financial decisions in order to weather this unprecedented crisis.

Topics covered in this webinar include:

  • What should I do if I’m unable to pay my mortgage or rent?
  • How are mandated closures and other governmental regulations issued to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 going to impact me and my family?
  • Which bills are most the important to pay first?
  • What should I do if I can’t pay my utilities, student loans or other monthly expenses?
  • How do I collect unemployment?
  • Where can I go to look for a job, who is hiring?
  • Where can I find other help I may need?
