STATEMENT: Treasurer Summers’ Statement on Governor’s Budget Address

Chicago City Treasurer Kurt Summers today released the following statement on Governor Bruce Rauner’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget address:

“The City of Chicago has made significant strides toward improving our fiscal standing while empowering and protecting hardworking residents and families. As we begin to review Governor Rauner’s proposed budget, it is clear we must avoid jeopardizing that progress by shifting the state’s financial burdens to the local level.

“While an increase in education funding is crucial, we must also find a responsible balance that safeguards social services and protects our city’s most vulnerable. Potential cuts to public transportation, healthcare and the city’s allocation of taxes from the state could directly threaten the daily lives of everyday Chicagoans and our ongoing efforts toward pension reform.”
