ESL Coaching with Eerie Neighborhood House
November 5, 6:10-7:50pm
Work with adult students to build their English skills through conversation. You’ll join a small group of students and other volunteers to discuss a topic provided by the volunteer leader. Students are often very new to English, so volunteers are asked to be patient and sensitive to students’ abilities. Your participation allows students to ask questions, practice their English, and build confidence in their skills in an approachable, comfortable setting.

Senior Breakfast Club at Maria Diaz Martinez Apts
November 7, 9am-12pm
Prepare and serve a hearty breakfast to a group of low-income seniors and afterward join them in a spirited interactive game. By bringing residents together for a warm meal and socialization, you will help build community among seniors who often feel isolated. Your participation also expands the facility’s capacity for improving residents’ overall quality of life.

Cystic Fibrosis Climb Event
November 8, 7am-12pm
We are looking for volunteers to help us with out 5th annual CF Climb event! Participants will be climbing 58 flights to the top to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We are looking for volunteers to help with: Registration, Gear Check, Rest Stops and Party Room set-up. The event will take place at 300 N LaSalle in downtown Chicago. It is a very quick, but very fun event!

Just for Starters Lakeview Seniors Bingo
November 9, 6:30-7:45pm
Start the week by sharing fun interactions with seniors at one of Chicago Cares’ longest-running projects! Your participation in Bingo games and friendly conversation will create a warm and welcoming environment for the residents. This opportunity is a cheerful activity for both the volunteers and the seniors, who are receiving skilled nursing care and are at risk for social isolation and depression.

Winter Warmth Project
November 11, 9:30am-12:30pm
The Chicago Winters are harsh! Help keep JCFS’ clients warm. Join us as we match the clients wishes for their warm winterwear. Through generous funding provided by JUF’s Chanukah Coat Club, Jewish Child & Family Services (JCFS) is proud to provide over 250 adults and 600 children with new hats, gloves, coats and more this winter season. The winter clothing clients receive from Project Winter Warmth are often the first new items of clothing clients have received. The impact on self-esteem of having a new item of clothing for the first time cannot be overstated. Please join us on November 11th to pack and sort all of the online winter clothing purchases.

Deborah’s Place Dinner
November 11-12, 6-8pm
Prepare and serve a hot dinner for women who have faced homelessness. Your participation allows staff to devote more time to counseling, providing case management, and building community with the women served by the organization.

Free Thanksgiving Meals for the Community
Mondays, 9:00am to 4:00pm
Turkey Chop Hot Meal Site at 3506 Chicago Avenue is open every Monday to serve free hot and healthy meals to the community. This will be a special Thanksgiving Meal!

Repack at the Greater Chicago Food Depository
Many dates available
The Greater Chicago Food Depository regularly needs volunteers to help with repacking donated food and other products. A lot of the food we receive at our warehouse comes in bulk quantities and volunteers are scheduled to help us break it down into more manageable sizes.

Sleepout Chicago
November 20, 6:00pm to 8:00am
Youth homelessness is epidemic. Over 22,000 teens face housing instability in Chicago – up to 40% of whom identify as LGBTQ.With brutal funding cuts looming for shelters and agencies, it’s time for Chicago to stop closing our eyes. OUT IN THE OPEN is an all-night charity event to raise awareness and money to help these nonprofits support Chicago’s most vulnerable.

Illinois Medical District Guest House Breakfast
November 21, 7:45am-11:15am
Individuals or a group needed to help with our Saturday Breakfast to cook and share conversation with our IMD Guest House guests in our Community Room. Those staying with us often spend long days in the hospital with their loved one or have outpatient treatments but Saturdays are a day off. Breakfast made for them is a nice treat for our guests!. We need volunteers to help bring sides for a full breakfast. We have a kitchen stocked with cooking utensils and a double oven. Suggested time for volunteers: 7:45a -11:15a, serving time is 9:30a.

Imerman Angels has been selected as the Charity of Choice for the 2015 Edison Park Turkey Trot! Join us as course marshals and by supporting the runners for this very fun event! What a wonderful way to get involved before eating lots of pie later!

Grant Park Turkey Trot
November 28, 7am-11am
Volunteer at Grant Park’s Turkey Trot 5k and Kids Dash and help us bring the power of play to Illinois! Your support will benefit the more than 30 schools and youth organizations we partner with to serve nearly 20,000 kids. Volunteer opportunities include: registration assistant, post race registration/food, course marshall, water station and medals. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt for their service.
