Press Release: Diverse Brokerage Firms Pump Up the Volume, Financial Returns

City Treasurer Neely Reflects on 2012 Investment Year

City Treasurer Stephanie Neely reflected on her Office’s 2012 investment results today. “My investment team of Michael Fehlman, Danielle Mostert, and Mark Myslinski are not only earning impressive returns, they have diversified our portfolio more than it has ever been, and our usage of Minority, Women, and Disabled-Veteran Business Enterprises really sets the standard for inclusive business practices,” said the Treasurer.

City Treasurer Stephanie Neely’s Office manages an $8-billion portfolio, City money that has to be kept safe while earning the highest possible rate of return. Since Treasurer Neely took office in December of 2006, her team has generated over $750-million in investment earnings.

Minority firms are doing the lion’s share of trades for the City Treasurer’s Office. In fact, last year more than 60% of the Treasurer’s Office trades were with Minority, Women and, Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises, and when you break it down by transaction volume, minority firms filled out 8 of the top 10 firms.

“It gives me great satisfaction to be able to do the City’s business with firms that tend to be underrepresented,” said Stephanie Neely, “this is the best way to encourage growth among up-and-coming investment firms.”

The Treasurer’s Office is currently reviewing Request for Information submissions from interested broker/dealers who seek to do business with the City in 2013.
