Have you checked your credit report recently?
January 2, 2013
January offers a fresh start and a fresh look and it’s a great time to take stock of your finances, including your credit report.
You are entitled to a free copy of your credit report once a year. The 3 credit reporting companies — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — keep track of things like your outstanding loans, credit cards, how you pay your bills, and whether you have filed for bankruptcy.
Your once-a-year review is your chance to fix any mistakes or inaccuracies. If there is inaccurate information, you can request that it be deleted or corrected.
The credit reporting companies are providing free annual credit reports only through AnnualCreditReport.com, by calling 1-877-322-8228, or mailing a request to Annual Credit Report Request Service. This is the only website authorized to fill orders for the free annual credit report, so beware of imposter sites that end up costing you money.
Your credit report is a valuable financial asset: do what it takes to keep it accurate.
