CHICAGO – City Treasurer Kurt Summers today announced the hiring of Assistant City Treasurer Joshua Harris. As Assistant City Treasurer, Harris manages projects related to core initiatives for the Chicago Treasurer’s Office and advises the Treasurer on intergovernmental affairs.

With wide-ranging experience in senior positions in city government and national political campaigns, Harris has experience in staff and volunteer management, data analysis, talent recruitment, public policy creation, coalition building and campaign organizing.

Prior to joining the Treasurer’s Office, Harris was the National Data & Reporting Director for AARP’s Take a Stand campaign, a non-partisan national campaign to ensure Social Security was an issue discussed by presidential and congressional candidates during the 2016 election cycle.

Harris served in senior roles for Washington, D.C.’s Mayor Muriel Bowser where he managed an office that successfully recruited over 200 executive and senior level staff members for the administration and over 2,000 residents for roles on boards and commissions. He also was a Senior Advisor in the D.C. Department of Human Resources and Chief of Staff in the Office of Economic Opportunity.

His extensive experience includes senior campaign positions with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) where he led campaign strategy for 14 targeted congressional races and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) where he led political engagement in 12 Midwest states. Harris is a veteran of the Obama for America re-election campaign.

“Joshua brings knowledge and experience to the Treasurer’s Office that will be pivotal in not only day-to-day operations, but in strategically executing long-term initiatives,” Treasurer Summers said. “I know I speak for the entire team when I say we are thrilled to have him on
board.”
